Recruiting a graduate student

I am currently recruiting a graduate student who is interested in biology education research to join the Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Memphis in Memphis, TN.

Ideal candidates will be those who have earned an undergraduate or master’s degree in biology (or related field) and are interested in pursuing an MS or PhD focused on research in undergraduate biology education. My research focuses on the effective use of various classroom learning tools to support undergraduate students in learning biology (visit www.jaimelsabel.com to learn more). This particular project will be examining the use of a new Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) to support students who transfer into the biology program after the introductory biology sequence.

Biology education research is a new focus within the Department of Biological Sciences, so many opportunities exist and the program of study can be flexible to best fit students’ interests. Candidates could begin as early as Fall 2018 pending acceptance into the program.
